How to lighten your skin with lemon

So you can lighten your skin just using lemons

Dark spots on the skin can appear at any time, and in addition to the inevitable passage of time, our dermis is daily exposed to external polluting agents, chemicals or environmental factors that end up damaging its natural tone, causing it to look less healthy.

This is why it is so important to hydrate and care for the skin daily, but what can we do when those dark spots are already a reality and visible? A good option is to try to mitigate and reduce them by using natural treatments like the one we propose in the following lemon-based OneHowTo article. Read carefully and learn how to use lemon to lighten your skin.

Steps to follow:

1   Lemon is a citrus fruit very rich in vitamin C and it is precisely this nutrient that inhibits the production of melanin, making the skin look more uniform, beautiful and slightly lighter in tone. Therefore, if you want to reduce dark spots both on the face and in some areas of the body that are prone to darkening such as the armpits, knees or elbows, lemon juice will be of great help to achieve this. In addition, lemon is an antioxidant so it also promotes youthful skin; and astringent, ideal for eliminating impurities, excess oil and keeping pores closed.

2   Before using lemon to lighten the skin, it is essential to exfoliate the area to be treated beforehand so that the treatment gives good results and you really get a lighter tone. To do this, you must choose a specific exfoliating lotion for the face or body and apply it gently using circular movements. When finished, rinse with plenty of water and your skin will be ready to receive the next lightening treatment with lemon.

3   To lighten the skin with lemon, you just have to squeeze the juice of one lemon and mix it in equal parts with water. Once ready, soak a cotton pad in the mixture and gently pass it over the area you want to lighten for a few minutes. You should let the lemon juice sit on your skin for at least 20 minutes so that it is completely absorbed. After that time, rinse the area with plenty of water and apply the moisturizing cream that you usually use.

4   Another more moisturizing option for your skin and with a double lightening effect is to mix lemon juice with another product with powerful whitening properties such as natural yogurt. Prepare a mask based on half natural yogurt with the juice of one lemon and apply it to darkened skin, letting it sit for 30 minutes. Finish by removing with plenty of water and also apply moisturizing cream.

5   You can do this skin lightening treatment with lemon once a day until you notice the results, but if your skin is sensitive it is best to do it every two days. Additionally, before applying it you must take into account the following

  • Carry it out preferably at night. If you do it during the day, do not expose your skin to the sun as new spots could appear in the area.
  • If you are going to apply lemon juice to your face, make sure it does not come into contact with your eyes and avoid spreading it around the eye area.
  • Keep your skin well hydrated daily so that the treatment is not harmful.
